Balaji Telefilms is named after the TV serial. Films also made a lot of production, but in the OTT market, Alt Balaji’s journey has been two steps ahead, four steps back. Call it pressure to make content continuously or DNA of production house, Alt Balaji’s new web series Rains seems to be the story of Ghar Ghar from twenty years ago.
The struggle of richness and poverty is not on screen in this era. The writers of Balaji either do not know the reality of the changing India or they think that the audience will be ready to see anything in the name of production house only. It is different to get hits by making a porn series like Filthy Talk, creating views for Sudhi viewers, and bringing views.
Baarish is the story of a girl working in a jewelery shop who has to raise two younger siblings. He gets married to the owner. And, the story begins. The characters written to add a twist to the story become its hiccups. Neither the story reaches anywhere nor its characters.
Capable actors like Sharman Joshi chose this series for money only. Otherwise, his fans expect far better work from him. Asha Negi is seen to be stuttering in the character of a Maharashtrian girl, she does not appear anywhere in the Marathi style or sentiment. Priya and Sahil’s tracks also do nothing beyond the story’s khanapuri. Series like showers for OTT in the era of Sholay Girl, Made in Heaven, Mirzapur and Rangbaz are indeed very backward thinking.
