The teaser of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited film Gangubai Kathiawadi has been released. Alia Bhatt is in the lead role, the film also stars Ajay Devgan but the teaser does not feature her. The loud noise with which the film was being talked about looks like a case of ‘Khoda Pahad Nikli Chuhiya’. The teaser starts with the sound going on in the background … ‘There is never a night in Kamathipura because Gangu lives there, Gangu was the moon and the moon will remain ..
Let us first talk about the person on whom this film has been made. The film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is the story of a spunky woman running a kotha in Kamathipura area of Mumbai who had access to the then Don Karim Lala of Mumbai. This story is about a naive girl from Gujarat till she became Gangubai Kathiawadi. Gangubai did a lot of work for sex workers. In a speech at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, he had said that if there are no women in Kamathipura, then the roads in Mumbai will become unsafe for women. The teaser also shows a glimpse of Azad Maidan.
Now come at the glimpse of Alia seen in the teaser. The tilism that Deepika showed in Devdas, Aishwarya, Madhuri and Padmavat is missing due to Alia being present in Gangubai. The problem with the teaser is that the audience is unable to connect Gangubai and Alia. Childhood is visible from Alia’s face. She does not look fit for this role.
The use of cinematography does not appear anywhere other than making Alia Bhatt look beautiful in the film. Bhansali seems to have paid less attention to the film’s story in the wake of keeping the entire focus on beauty and elegance. It looks like Sanjay Leela Bhansali has tried to copy Karan Johar’s flop film Kalank.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he has not been able to inspire in Alia the kind of Rob Gangubai is told. Overall everything seems throwaway. The audience does not like to watch a film made on someone’s life until the actors take away their entire body language. The relationship between cinema and the viewer is also very delicate, it does not have to be played. Bhansali has missed here. From the film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ to ‘Padmavat’, Gangubai, who has created a cinema on the big screen, does not even seem to have a film around it.
The teaser of the film states that the film is very grand. In terms of box office, how many grand films are they going to get, the answer will be on July 30 itself. The glimpse of Ajay Devgan and the rest of the characters in the film is yet to be revealed.
